About 100 people gathered at the end of June, in Rio de Janeiro, for the event Risk and Insurance Management as a differential in the Offshore Energy sector, promoted by Horiens and Gallagher Brasil with IBEF-Rio (Brazilian Institute of Finance Executives).
“By bringing together representatives of the sector to exchange and deepen knowledge about the challenges of this industry, our goal is that Brazil is not only aligned with international practices, but also seeking to innovate and export knowledge in relation to this important sector,” says Rafael Souza, Director of Risk and Insurance for Oil, Gas and Offshore Energy at Horiens.
For Thiago Navega, Director of Facultative Risks for Gallagher in Brazil, the event was a unique opportunity to interact with representatives from the offshore energy sector value chain. “We are talking about high risk and complex operations, so establishing a robust and lively risk management process is a decisive strategy to mitigate risks, as well as to respond effectively to unexpected events and reduce financial losses,” explains Thiago.
Discussing risks, insurance, and challenges of the offshore energy industry
The meeting brought to the discussion themes such as the scenario and challenges of the energy transition, claims, construction insurance and offshore operations, warranty insurance, risk management, among other relevant issues for the segment.
The topic of risk management covered best practices applied to the offshore energy industry, management techniques and tools, based on ISO 31010, and the distribution of responsibilities in offshore contracts, such as the Fault Based regime and the Knock for Knock regime.
On the guaranty insurance agenda, regulatory aspects such as the SUSEP Circular 662 were discussed, published in the first half of this year, and the need for adequacy of warranty insurance products by the beginning of next year, in addition to the operation of insurance, contracting flow and modalities available in offshore energy projects.
Another theme debated at the meeting was Brazil’s leadership in the pipeline of new offshore wind energy projects, a strategic and high-impact agenda for the sector. Offshore wind generation is considered one of the most promising sources of renewable energy for the coming years, and is expected to grow eightfold by 2050.
