More than 120 members participated in the live “Life is the best choice,” held by Horiens in partnership with Novonor and the OEC. This was one of the actions promoted by the companies in the Yellow September campaign,
dedicated to suicide prevention.

“Every year, we try to promote informative and preventive campaigns, engaging in global movements that address relevant issues for people’s health and well-being, such as Yellow September”, explains Nayara de Santana Andrade, member of the People Insurance area at Horiens and responsible for the campaign in the company.

The Yellow September is a major worldwide campaign for prevention against suicide, considered a serious public health problem and one of the main causes of death among young people between 15 and 29 years old, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

The live was conducted by psychiatrist Marco Ferreira, from Rio de Janeiro, who shared with the participants information about the disorders that affect the mind and the importance of seeking balance to deal with the natural diversity of emotions that are part of life.

“All human beings are true reservoirs of emotions. Some may find it easier to balance this reservoir, others may find it less easy. You have to look at this and strengthen your ability to deal with problems and stressful situations,” Marco points out.

The different experiences we live, the family, friendships, studies, sports, leisure – all of this contributes to the formation of each one’s emotional structure. “After all, people are the fruit of their environment,” he adds.

Check out some reflections shared by Dr. Marco Ferreira:

Real vs. virtual world
“One of the main pitfalls of the online universe is that it doesn’t allow you to build experiences that help you tackle problems”

Illusions of modern society
“Society creates performance ideals, so having a realistic view is essential. To have high performance, there is a process, we need to evolve step by step.

Life is a whirlwind of emotions
“Problems are part of life, as are good times. Having good emotion management skills is important, you need to look at that.”

Mental Health
“Isolating yourself socially is an opposite path to mental health.”
