Horiens at Rio Oil and Gas 2022: insurance and risk management on the agenda
Written by: Horiens - 05/10/2022
Horiens was once again present at the largest event of the Oil and Gas sector in Latin America, the Rio Oil & Gas, participating in a round table on the theme “Risk Management and Insurance Programs for Offshore Wind Power Projects”, presented by Rafael Souza, Horiens’ Risk and Insurance Director.
Offshore wind power generation is one of the most promising renewable energy sources for the coming years. In Brazil, there are several wind power projects in progress, and this scenario should expand and consolidate more and more.
“Participating in Rio Oil & Gas is always an excellent opportunity to exchange and deepen knowledge,” says Rafael. “By sharing risk and claims trends in offshore wind energy projects, we help foster rich discussions around the importance of risk management and having insurance programs tailored to each project’s profile,” he adds.
The risks were presented from a complete approach, from construction to decommissioning, a stage that covers environmental risks arising from the removal of equipment offshore, disposal of materials, and environmental regulatory issues.
The round table was moderated by Paulo Henrique Van Der Ven, from Equinor, and also included Rafael Baleroni, presenting the theme “Offshore wind energy – regulation and possible integration with E&P of offshore oil”, Bruno Chedid, responsible for the theme “Green hydrogen in Brazil: Regulatory overview, projects in development and possible improvements” and Victor Pimentel, who presented “Potential of hydrogen production via power-to-gas from wind source for mitigation of CO2 emissions in a bus fleet”.
ERM in the oil and gas sector
In this edition of Rio Oil & Gas, the article “ERM: the case of implementation in an Oil & Gas company”, by Horiens’ Risk and Insurance Manager, Kyllbert Wougran, was also a topic of discussion, with presentation at the ESG Digital Technical Table.
“This edition of Rio Oil & Gas was particularly special because it marked the reheating of the energy sector, with a strong presence of important companies in the market,” highlights Kyllbert. “During the rounds of discussions on the future of the O&G industry, I had the opportunity to contribute by addressing core issues around the implementation of Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) programs. The goal is to contribute to the success of enterprise risk management initiatives and the continuous improvement of this practice in companies,” he explains.
